Obituary.-The death occurred in a private hospital at Darlinghurst of Mr. John Travers Tindal, of Tatiara, Glen Innes. The deceased gentleman, who was 66 years of age, was bom at Ramornie, Clarence River, and was a son of the late Mr. Charles Grant Tindal, father of the Australian meat export trade. Through the medium of the Ramornie meatworks, deceased's father pioneered the tinned meat export, and established for the Ramornie products a reputation without equal throughout the world. Educated in England, the late Mr. Tindal returned to Australia, and married Miss Ogilvie, a sister of Mr. W. F. Ogilvie, of Ilparran. After a long period of residence on the Clarence River, the late Mr. Tindal acquired Tatiara from Mr. John Strang, and resided in the Glen Innes district until early this year, when he disposed of his Glen Innes interests. The late Mr. Tindal is survived by his widow and four daughters - Mrs. Travers (Singapore), Misses Dorothy, Freda, and Marjory. His only son was killed in the Great War.^3,4

Lieut. Louis Nicolas Lindsay Tindal was born at Ramornie, and educated at Southport, Queensland, and the Armidale School. He is 23 years of age, and sailed for England in May, 1915. He gained his commission in the 2nd Battalion Devonshire Regiment, soon after his arrival, but was not sent to France until July, 1916. He was highly commended, and awarded the Military Cross for leading his company (in the absence of his captain, who was disabled) during a very severe fight on 31st July and 1st August, 1917, and setting a fine example to his men. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and Battalion Intelligence Officer about the same time, and later, in the absence of the Brigade Intelligence Officer on sick leave, occupied that position for some weeks.

TINDAL. (Commander, 1841.)
Louis Symonds Tindal entered the Navy 3 Feb. 1825; passed his examination in 1831; and obtained his first commission 29 Dec. 1832. His succeeding appointments were – 17 Nov. 1834, to the Pique 36, Capt. Hon. Henry John Rous, which frigate, while he was in her, ran ashore on the coast of Labrador, was got off with great difficulty, and crossed the Atlantic without a rudder – 16 Jan. 1836, to the Vestal 26, Capt. Wm. Jones, on the North America and West India station – and 10 Nov. 1837, to the Calliope 26, Capt. Thos. Herbert. In the ship last mentioned he served for some time in South America, and then sailed for the coast of China, where, in the early part of 1841, we find him present in the attack upon Chuenpee, in the action with the Bogue forts, at the storming of the enemy’s works close to Whampoa Reach (in which were found 54 pieces of cannon), at the capture of the last fort protecting the approaches to Canton, and in the first and second series of hostilities against that city. As a reward for his conduct he was advanced to his present rank 8 June, 1841. He was appointed, 16 Oct. following, to the Pylades 18, which vessel he brought home from the East Indies and paid off in Oct. 1843; and, since 16 July, 1846, he has been in command of the Grecian 12, on the S.E. coast of America.
