Sir James Mouat K.C.B., V.C., Q.H.S.

     Sir James Mouat K.C.B., V.C., Q.H.S. was born on 14 April 1815 in Chatham, Kent.1 He was the son of Surgeon James Mouat.2 Educated at University College, London and Paris. Sir James Mouat won his V.C. in the Crimea on 25 Oct. 1854. "For voluntarily going to the assistance of Major Morris, 17th Lancers, who was lying badly wounded in an exposed position after the Balaclava charge, and saving that officer's life by dressing his wounds in presence of the enemy." London Gazette 4 June 1858. He was also awarded the French Legion d'Honneur and was later knighted by Queen Victoria. He was appointed Surgeon General in 1864 and served in that role until 1868 he finally retired on half pay 28 April 1876. In 1895 he is listed as an Honorary Surgeon to the Queen.3 Sir James Mouat K.C.B., V.C., Q.H.S. married Adela Rose Ellen Tindal, daughter of Rev. Nicholas Tindal M.A. and Anne Frances Schweitzer, on 6 October 1859 in St. Peter's Church, Dublin. Sir James Mouat K.C.B., V.C., Q.H.S. died on 4 January 1899 at 108 Palace Gardens Terrace, Kensington, London, at the age of 834 and is buried in Kensal Green Cemetery.

White Plains, N.Y., Nov. 5. Mrs. Ethel Mount Sewall, prominent resident of Pleasantville, where her home was at 386 Bedford Road, left an estate with gross value of $77,639.46, according to a transfer tax appraisal filed here with Surrogate George A. Slater. Mrs. Sewall died at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City on January 22 of this year.
The principal asset in the estate is a trust fund established by Mrs. Sewall in 1922 with the New York Trust Company, which institution is made administrator of the estate. This fund amounted to approximately $67,000 and is composed of stocks and bonds. By the terms of her will, Mrs. Sewall left a life estate in the residuary estate to her mother, Mrs. E. Cornelia Mount of Bedford, who is 81 years of age. One-half of the residuary estate subject to this life interest is left to each of her two children, Barbara Mount Sewall, twelve, and Elinor Sewall, nine, who live with their grandmother in Bedford.6

Joseph Sewall and Eliza Jane Trafton, circa 1879.2 Marietta Muchmore is recorded as Mary E. Sewall in the 1900 Census. She and Frank Ernest Sewall appear on the census of 1910 at York, Maine, he is a farmer.3 Marietta Muchmore appears on the census of 1930 at York, Maine, living with her son Ernest and his wife.4 She died on 7 April 1943 in York Beach at the age of 851 and is buried in First Parish Cemetery, York Village, York County, Maine.5

Funeral services for Mrs. Marietta M. Sewell, who died in York Beach Wednesday, were held from The Roger K Lucas funeral home Friday afternoon. Rev. W.H. Millinger, of the First Parish church, and Rev. W.H. Harris of the Union Congregational church, York Beach, conducted the service.
Mrs Sewall was born in Kittery July 26, 1857, the daughter of George W. and Pamela (Blaney) Muchmore. She was educated in Kittery schools.
Mrs. Sewall was the widow of Frank E. Sewall of York. She had lived here for 63 years and was a member of the First Parish church (Congregational), a charter member of the King's Daughters, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, and of the American Legion auxiliary.6
