She was born in Augusta, a daughter of Martin and Ina Dumais Meader. She graduated from Cony High School, class of 1960 and attended Ventura (California) College.
For many years, while living in Hallowell, Mrs. Sewall was active in state politics, both as a volunteer and later on a professional basis for the Maine Republican Party. She also served on the Maine State Museum Commission Board from 1976 to 1982.
She was a member of the fund-raising committee for the preservation of Hallowell City Hall and the Questers, a national antique study association for women, serving as president of the Augusta chapter.
She loved animals, especially her dog, Wyman and her cats, Burnham and Shu.
She married Loyall Sewall in 1987, and lived in Bremen.
She became vice-president of Keene Narrows Lobster Company.
Mrs. Sewall returned to Augusta upon the death of her husband in 1995.
Surviving are her parents of Augusta; two stepdaughters, Rebecca Sewall of Washington, D.C., and Sarah Sewall of Winchester, Mass; a stepson, Loyall Sewall Jr. of New York City; an uncle, Emile Dumais of Marlboro, Mass., and four grandchildren.
