Annette McIntosh was born on 14 December 1923 in Mentone, California.1 She was the daughter of George Wade McIntosh and Bess DeVore.1 Annette McIntosh married Samuel Swanton Sewall II, son of Edward Houghton Sewall and Joanna Mullen Clark, in 1945 in Redlands, California.1 Annette McIntosh died on 4 March 2006 in Redlands, California, at the age of 821 and is buried in Hillside Memorial Park, Redlands, California.2

REDLANDS - Annette McIntosh Sewall, a longtime community volunteer and member of families prominent in Redlands' history, died of heart failure Saturday, March 4, at her home in Redlands, surrounded by family members. She was 82.
She was born Dec. 14, 1923, in Mentone and graduated from Redlands High School in 1941.
Her grandfather William Peter McIntosh came to the area from Los Angeles in 1884 and was one of the founders of Mentone, where he also helped establish the town's first post office.
Her mother, Bess DeVore McIntosh, was born in Kentucky and met George Wade McIntosh, William McIntosh's son, when she came to Redlands. They were married in 1910 and had five children - Elizabeth "Betty," James "Jimmy," Donald, Annette and Nancy.
After Annette McIntosh's father died in 1929, her mother married Fred H. Clock, a longtime member of the Redlands school board. Clock Auditorium on the Redlands High School campus was named for him because of his service to the community.
During her years at Redlands High School, Annette McIntosh was a member of the cheerleading squad and tennis club and was a member of the Kimberly Juniors.
After high school, she attended San Bernardino Valley College, then worked in the civilian department at Norton Air Base. During World War II, she and her family often helped entertain troops stationed in the area.
In 1945, she married her longtime sweetheart, Samuel S. Sewall II, son of Edward Houghton Sewall II and Joanna Mullen Sewall. As with the McIntosh family, the Sewalls were longtime residents of Redlands.
Before coming to Redlands, the Sewall family was based in the Boston and Maine areas, where they were involved in politics and the East Coast shipbuilding business which included sailing ships in the earlier years and battleships during various wars.
In 1909, Samuel¹s father, Edward H. Sewall, moved to Redlands and became involved in the orange-growing business. Edward and Joanna Sewall married in 1917, and Joanna was one of the original members of the Assistance League of Redlands.
Samuel's grandparents, Samuel S. Sewall and Avice Meeker Sewall, also supported community organizations, including the A. K. Smiley Public Library.
Annette Sewall's husband, Samuel Sewall II, served on the Redlands City Council for a number of years and was manager for the Redlands Chamber of Commerce.
He and his grandmother, Avice Meeker Sewall, were leaders in the preservation of Prospect Park in the 1960s, and the outdoor theater in the park is named for Avice Meeker Sewall.
During the years her children attended Kimberly Elementary School, Annette Sewall was involved in the PTA, including serving as president. After many years of service to the PTA, she was awarded lifetime PTA membership.
She also volunteered 20 years for the Red Cross, driving for the local blind community, and was a member of the Associates of the Redlands Bowl.
Her longest term of community service was with the Assistance League of Redlands, which she served for 40 years.
In 2001, she received the Ada Edwards Laughlin Award, one of the highest awards given by the Assistance League.
Her husband died in 1991.
Survivors include two sons, Edward H. Sewall of Pasadena and Mark A. Sewall of Hesperia; two daughters, Nancy Elizabeth Sewall of Oceanside and Marcia D. Sewall of San Marcos; two sisters, Nancy McIntosh Leonard of Redlands and Betty Shirley of Balboa; and three grandsons.3
