Riley, on 27 March 1886 in California.⁴ Lutie Belle Greenleaf and Gilbert Tennant Sewall appear on the census of 1900 at Los Angeles, California, he is employed as a fruit packer.³ Lutie Belle Greenleaf married secondly Russell B. Wilson say 1918.² Lutie Belle Greenleaf died on 9 July 1922 in Los Angeles at the age of 54.²

     Lydia Greenleaf was christened on 24 July 1768 at Newburyport, Essex County, Massachusetts.¹ She was the daughter of Hon. Benjamin Greenleaf and Elizabeth Chauncy.¹

     Mary Greenleaf married Col. John Leverett, son of Knight Leverett and Abigail Butolph, in 1757.¹

     Hon. Simon Greenleaf was born on 5 December 1783 in Newburyport (or 1785 see BDNA vol. 4 p. 410.)² He was the son of Moses Greenleaf and Lydia Parsons.³ He attended the Latin school in Newburyport and at the age of eighteen began the study of law with Ezekiel Whitman of New Gloucester, Maine. He was admitted to the bar in Cumberland county, Maine, in 1805, opened an office first in Standish, then in Gray, and in 1817 removed to Portland, Maine. In 1820 and 1821 he represented Portland in the Maine legislature and in August, 1820, became reporter of the supreme court under the act of the new state, passed June 24, 1820. His service in that position ended in July, 1832. He was Royal professor of law at Harvard, 1833-46; Dane professor of the same branch succeeding Judge Story, 1846-48; and professor emeritus, 1848-53. He was at one time president of the Massachusetts Bible society, and was a member of the Massachusetts historical society and the American philosophical society. He received the honorary degree of M.A. from Bowdoin in 1817 and that of LL.D. from Harvard in 1834, from Amherst in 1845, and from the University of Alabama in 1852. He is the author of: Origin and Principles of Freemasonry (1820); Full Collection of Cases, Overruled, Denied, Doubted or Limited in their Application (1821); Reports of Cases in the Supreme Court of Maine, 1820-31 (9 vols., 1822-35); Remarks on the Exclusion of Atheists as Winesses (1839); Treatise on the Law of Evidence (3 vols., 1842-53); Examination of the Testimony of the Four Evangelists, by the Rules of Evidence administered in Courts of Justice, with an Account of the Trial of Jesus (1846); and a discourse on the life and character of Joseph Story (1845). He also prepared and adapted to United States practice an enlarged edition of Digest of the Laws of England respecting Real Property by William Cruise (3 vols., 1849-50).⁴ Hon. Simon Greenleaf married Hannah Kingman, daughter of Captain Ezra Kingman and Susanna Whitman, on 18 September 1806.^2,3 Hon. Simon Greenleaf died on 6 October 1853 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, at the age of 69.^3,5

     Stephen Greenleaf. A dyer by trade. He was born in 1628 in Ipswich.² He was baptised on 10 August 1628 at St. Mary's, England.³ He was the son of Edmund Greenleaf and Sarah Dole.¹ Stephen Greenleaf married firstly Elizabeth Coffin, daughter of Judge Tristram Coffin and Dionis Stevens, on 13 November 1651 in Newbury, Massachusetts, his sister-in-law.⁴ Stephen Greenleaf married secondly Esther Weare, daughter of Nathaniel Weare, on 31 March 1679.³ Stephen Greenleaf was drowned on 1 December 1690 off Cape Breton at the age of 62. He had been part of the disatrous expedition against Canada that year.^5,6

     Stephen Greenleaf was born on 15 October 1735.¹ He was the son of Dr. Daniel Greenleaf and Silence Nichols. Stephen Greenleaf married Eunice Fairbanks in 1758.²

Stephen Greenleaf married Elizabeth Gerrish, daughter of Capt. William Gerrish and Joanna Lowell, on 23 October 1676.⁴ A Eunice Fairbanks is also found recorded as his wife though his second wife was Mrs. Hannah Jordon of Kittery.^1,4

     Susanna Greenleaf was the daughter of Benjamin Greenleaf and Ann Hale.² Susanna Greenleaf married Timothy Greenleaf, son of John Greenleaf and Abigail (Unknown), on 26 May 1743 they had nine children.² Susanna Greenleaf died on 24 March 1771.³

     Susanna Greenleaf was the daughter of Stephen Greenleaf and Eunice Fairbanks.² Susanna Greenleaf married Dr. Simon Stevens.

     Thomas Greenleaf was born circa 1766 calculated from his age at death.¹ He married Elizabeth Coates on 13 June 1789 in Newburyport, Massachusetts.¹ Thomas Greenleaf died in 1791 or 1792 drowned at sea. His death being reported in the press in January 1793.^1,2

     Timothy Greenleaf was born on 23 June 1719.² He was the son of John Greenleaf and Abigail (Unknown).¹ Timothy Greenleaf married Susanna Greenleaf, daughter of Benjamin Greenleaf and Ann Hale, on 26 May 1743 they had nine children.³ Timothy Greenleaf died on 20 July 1764 in Newburyport, Massachusetts, at the age of 45.³

     Tristram Greenleaf married Margaret Piper.² Tristram Greenleaf was born on 11 February 1667/68 in Newbury, Massachusetts.^1,2 He was the son of Stephen Greenleaf and Elizabeth Coffin.¹ Tristram Greenleaf died on 13 September 1740 at the age of 72.²

     Gen. William Greenleaf was born on 23 August 1738.² He was the son of Dr. Daniel Greenleaf and Silence Nichols.² Gen. William Greenleaf married Sarah Quincy, daughter of Judge Edmund Quincy and Elizabeth Wendell, on 19 December 1763.² Gen. William Greenleaf died on 13 January 1793 in Lancaster, Massachusetts, at the age of 54.²

     Hon. William Greenleaf was born on 10 January 1725.² He married Mary Brown, daughter of Judge Robert Brown, on 3 June 1747 there were fifteen children of the marriage. Hon. William Greenleaf died on 21 July 1803 in New Bedford at the age of 78.²

     Elizabeth Greenough was born on 30 November 1664 in Boston, Massachusetts.² She was the daughter of William Greenough and Elizabeth Upshall.³ Elizabeth Greenough married William Robie before 19 October 1687 in Boston.^1,2 Elizabeth was probably the Mrs. Robye who was buried on 2 July 1718 in Boston, Massachusetts.²

     Richard Greenough married Hannah Sewall, daughter of Henry Sewall and Elizabeth Titcomb, on 20 July 1738 in Newbury, Massachusetts.¹
