Daniel Gookin was born in 1612 either in Ripple, Kent, or Ireland.2,3,4 He was the son of Daniel Gookin and Mary Byrd.5 Daniel Gookin married secondly Mary Dolling after 11 November 1639 which was the date of the licence to marry at St. Sepulchre's, London. Daniel Gookin is described in the licence as a gentleman and a widower, there is no trace of his earlier marriage.6,7,8,9 Daniel Gookin and Mary Dolling set sail in 1641 for Virginia.7 Daniel Gookin married as his second or third wife Hannah Tyng, daughter of Hon. Edward Tyng and Mary Sears, before 10 April 1685 at Cambridge, Massachusetts.10 Daniel Gookin died on 19 March 1686/87 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, "Satterday, about 5. or 6. in the morn, Major Daniel Gookin dies, a right good Man."11,12 He was buried on 22 March 1686/87 in the burying ground of the First Church, opposite the gate to Harvard College.13,14,15
