A wedding of interest to a large circle of friends was celebrated in St. Stephen's Cathedral, Brisbane, on February 17, when Dr. Gavin Holme Cameron (late of the A.I.F., and eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. D.C.K. Cameron, of Kensington Downs, and Caledonia, Aramac) was married to Miss Mary Agatha Fitzgerald (daughter of the late Mr. J. F. Fitzgerald and Mrs. Fitzgerald, of Enderley, New Farm., Brisbane). The Very Rev. Father Fitzgerald (uncle of the bride), assisted by the Rev. Father Lane, officiated. The bride was given away by her brother (Mr. F. Fitzgerald). The bridesmaids were Misses Paula Fitzgerald (sister of the bride) and Marjorie Cameron (sister of the bridegroom). Mr. Stuart Cameron (late of the A.I.F.) acted as best man, and Lieutenant Waldon Taylor (late of the A.I.F.) as groomsman. After the ceremony a reception was held at Enderley, and subsequently Mr. and Mrs. Gavin Cameron left for the South for the honeymoon. The Queenslander, 28 February 1920.³

Vice-Admiral Sir Raymond Fitzmaurice, K.B.E., D.S.O., died suddenly on October 25 at the age of 65. The son of the late Mr. John G. Fitzmaurice, barrister-at-law, he entered the Britannia as a naval cadet in 1893 and became a lieutenant in 1901. After being torpedo officer of the Aboukir in the Mediterranean, he served for four years as wireless officer in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Fleets. When the naval wing of the R.F.C. was started in 1912 he was appointed for wireless duties with aircraft. In 1913 he became a commander, and at the outbreak of the last war he was second in command of the cruiser Chatham. The D.S.O. was awarded him for services in charge of the operations of blocking the Rufiji river to prevent the escape of the German cruiser Konigsberg in November, 1914, when he took a block ship in under heavy fire. He afterwards served in the Chatham at the Dardanelles and later in the war he commanded the sloop Espiegle in the Persian Gulf. After promotion to captain in 1918 he was Assistant Director of Naval Intelligence and later became Naval Adviser to the High Commissioner of Danzig. He commanded the cruisers Antrim and Yarmouth, attached to the Signal School; and was Director of the Signal Department, Admiralty, from 1923 to 1925. He commanded successively the battleship Resolution in the 2nd Battle Squadron and Iron Duke in the 3rd Battle Squadron, in each case as flag captain; and afterwards became vice-president of the Chemical Warfare Committee. He retired on his promotion to rear-admiral in 1929, and was promoted vice-admiral on the retired list in 1934. On the outbreak of the present war he at once volunteered for service afloat, and was the doyen of the gallant band of retired flag-officers who waived their proper rank for that of commodore, R.N.R., and went to sea in merchant ships as commodores of the convoys in which they sailed. He continued in that service, without more intermission than the normal intervals between turns of duty, and was indeed awaiting the call to his next convoy at the time of his death. For that service he was, made K.B.E. (Military Division) in the New Year Honours of 1942.³

Fleming Arthur Gordon Slane, of Hoselaw, Alberta, enlisted at Quebec City, originally from Dublin, Ireland. Medals/Honours: Military Medal (MM), Mentioned in Dispatches (MID), Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM). Occupation: Machinist. Military Service: Private, Lieutenant, Reg. No. 14472, 6th Bn., transferred to PPCLI [2nd Co., 5th Platoon]; transferred to 26th Bn. Attestation Papers. Diary Reference: "[A. G. S.] Fleming showed me a letter he had written to a friend telling his doings from the time of his leaving home until that never to be forgotten 'eighth of May'. By the way, he received the D. C. M. for his work that day," 2:11 Nov '15; "Last night Lt. Walker came along. Awfully glad to see the little fellow. He is a sniper in the 26th. His officer is old [A. G. S.] Fleming who used to be a private in our platoon," 3:14 Sep '16. According to Hodder- Williams, 174, Fleming transferred from the 6th Bn. to the PPCLI on 28 April 1915, was struck off strength 4 January 1916 and subsequently became a lieutenant in the 26th Bn.
