S Sgt. Paul A. Ekengren, 20, a former resident of this city, was killed in action in Belgium on Dec. 26, 1944. The war department telegram was received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. Ekengren, now residing at 34 Rittenhouse terrace. Springfield.
Sgt. Ekengren, a graduate of Fitchburg high school, 1941, entered the army on Dec. 7, 1942. He received his training in engineering at Lehigh university, Penn, where he received the Blue Star for scholastic excellence. He was later transferred to Johns Hopkins hospital in Baltimore, Md., and then to Camp Claiborne, La., where he received the Expert Infantryman's award.
Besides his parents he leaves one sister, Miss June Ekengren. Fitchburg Sentinel, 19 January 1945.3
