Jim, a fourth generation Texan, was born and raised in Gonzales, Texas. He attended and graduated from the University of Texas, where he was a member of the University's first golf team. He moved to Corpus Christi in 1935 and founded Nueces Financial Corporation
(Nueces Trust Company) and was active in the company until his death. The company was an early provider of credit financing to the Automobile Industry. Jim was preceded in death by his first wife of 23 years, Alice Sewall of Marlin, Texas, his second wife of 45 years, Louise Redfield of Bradford, Pennsylvania, and his grandson, Robert Douglass Browning of Corpus Christi.
He is survived by two children, Donald J. (Helen) Douglass of San Antonio, Texas and Marylee (Robert) Browning of Corpus Christi, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.5

He was born March 6, 1917, in Presque Isle, the son of Wilmot and Katherine (Stevens) Dow. John was a graduate of Presque Isle High School and attended the University of Maine. He was a life-long resident of Presque Isle and was a self-employed businessman most of the time. He was a member of the Presque Isle Congregational Church United Church of Christ and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. John was a past member of Trinity Lodge No. 130 AF&AM, the Presque Isle Rotary Club, a charter member of the Presque Isle S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. (Barber Shoppers Quartets Association). He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Some of his happiest times were spent with his family and friends at his camp on Harrow Lake. John was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Helen (Culberson) Dow; and a brother, Wilmot. He is survived by a sister, Margaret Melgard of Washington Pond; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Ballard of Ellsworth; his son and daughter-in-law, David Dow and Beverly Wood of Grand Falls, N.B; several grandchildren and great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, at the Presque Isle Congregational Church, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Grove-Markwood, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations in his memory be made to the Presque Isle Congregational Church United Church of Christ, 29 Church St., Presque Isle, ME 04769. A spring interment will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.4
