     Note: Master of Catherine Hall, Cambridge, who held the see for twenty years 1559-77. Vice-Chancellor. Rector of Ashton Sandford, Bucks., of Long Stanton St Michael, Cambs., of North Creek, Norf., of St Dunstan-in-the-East, London, Prebendary of Ely, Archdeacon of the East Riding. Brother of William May. Fell a victim to a dreadful plague, which raged in Cumberland, in 1597. Dr. John Meye, Bishop of Carlisle was born circa 1526 in Suffolk.2 He married Amy Vowell, daughter of William Vowell of Creake Abbey, Norfolk and Margaret Hymerford. Dr. John Meye, Bishop of Carlisle was translated in 1577 Bishop of Carlisle. He died on 15 February 1597/98 in Rose Castle, Carlisle, probably of the plague.3 He was buried on 15 February 1597/98 in Carlisle.3

     Elizabeth Ward Middleton was born on 26 July 1795 in Locust Hill, near Nanjemoy Creek, Charles County, Maryland.2 She was the daughter of Samuel Ward Middleton and Catherine Taliaferro Hooe.2 Elizabeth Ward Middleton married firstly William Adams on 23 September 1817.3 Elizabeth Ward Middleton married secondly William Sewall, son of General Henry Sewall and Tabitha Sewall, on 9 August 1821 at Washington, District of Columbia, the ceremony was conducted by Rev. McCormick, an Episcopal minister, at the Queen's Hotel At the wedding were present Dr. Thomas Sewall's family and the Misses Mary and Emelyn Webster (also relatives). Miss Mary Webster was bridesmaid and Horatio Ward was groomsman.1,2,4 Elizabeth Ward Middleton died on 5 October 1874 in at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.H. Goodell, Chandlerville, Illinois, at the age of 79.2

     Samuel Ward Middleton was born on 4 September 1755 in Charles County, Maryland.2 He married Catherine Taliaferro Hooe circa 1790.1,3 The Middletons were thrifty, prudent people, and Samuel Ward, who spent his entire life on a plantation in Charles County, was no exception to the rule. He was fortunate in the possession of a wife who had excellent executive ability, and who was skilled above the average in the accomplishments of her day. Among other things she was credited with being able to knit in one day one of the long stockings worn by the men of that time, the stitches so arranged as to spell his name, and the day, month and year of his birth.2
