     Judge William Jay was born on 16 June 1789 in New York City.¹ He was the son of John Jay and Sarah Van Brugh Livingston.¹ He was prepared for college by the Rev. Thomas Ellison and Henry Davis, and graduated from Yale in 1807. He studied law, but on account of a weakness of the eyes he relinquished the profession and retired to his father's home at Bedford, N.Y.

He was brought up in the Protestant Episcopal faith, but his churchmanship was broad, and he gave his co-operation in the formation of the American Bible Society in 1810, against the judgment of the high church party. He was assigned to the bench of Westchester, N.Y., as one of the county judges, by Governor De Witt Clinton in 1818, holding the office until 1823. He was re-appointed under the new constitution in 1823 and served till 1843, when he was displaced by Governor W. C. Bouck at the demand of a proslavery faction, Judge Jay being a conservative anti-slavery advocate, opposed to the work of the Colonization Society. He was first president of the New York Anti-Slavery Society, 1835-36. Kenyon college conferred on him the honorary degree of LL.D. in 1858. He is the author of: Memoir on the Subject of a General Bible Society for the United States (1815); Letter to Bishop Hobart (1823); Mosaic Laws of Servitude (1824); Life of John Jay, with Select Papers (1833); Colonization and Anti-Slavery Societies (1835); A View on the Action of the Federal Government in behalf of Slavery (1837); The Condition of the Free People of Color in the United States (1839); War and Peace (1842); Causes and Consequences of the Mexican War (1849); An Address to the Non-Slave-Holders of the South on the Social and Political Evils of Slavery (1849); Miscellaneous Writings on Slavery (1853), and over thirty published letters, essays and addresses (1815-55). He also left in manuscript A Commentary on the Bible.¹ Judge William Jay married Augusta McVickar, daughter of John McVicker, in 1812.¹ Judge William Jay died on 17 May 1858 in Bedford, New York, at the age of 68 (also found as 14 October 1858).^1,2

     Lt. Colonel William Jay was born on 12 February 1841 in New York City.¹ He was the son of John Jay and Eleanor Kingsland Field.¹ He was prepared for college at the Columbia Grammar School, conducted by Dr. Charles Anthon, and graduated from Columbia College, A.B., 1859.

In April, 1861, he was appointed volunteer aide-de-camp on the staff of Maj.-Gen. John E. Wool; was commissioned captain in August, 1861, and served as aide-de-camp to Gen. George Morrell; to Gen. George G. Meade, of the 5th corps, Army of the Potomac; to Gen. George Sykes, who succeeded Meade in command of the 5th corps, and again to General Meade after he had assumed command of the Army of the Potomac. He participated in the battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, in the Wilderness campaign, in the siege of Petersburg and in the pursuit of Lee's army, and was present at the surrender at Appomattox. He was twice brevetted for gallant and meritorious conduct. He resigned from the service when the volunteer army was disbanded in 1865, having attained the rank of lieutenant-colonel.

On returning to New York he was graduated from the Columbia Law School, LL.B., 1867, was admitted to the bar in 1868, and practised in New York city in partnership with Edgar S. Van Winkle and Flamen B. Candler, 1868-82, and after Mr. Van Winkle's death continued the partnership with Mr. Candler. Upon the death of his father, May 5, 1894, he inherited the ancestral estate, Bedford House, at Bedford, Westchester County, New York, which had descended to his great grandfather through Mary Van Cortlandt, her great great grandmother.¹ Lt. Colonel William Jay married Lucy Oelrichs, daughter of Henry Oelrichs and Julia May, on 12 June 1878.¹

      Of New Canaan, Connecticut.¹ Capt. John K. Jayne USNR was born in 1898 in Washington, District of Columbia.² He married Dorothy Sumner Sewall, daughter of William Dunning Sewall and Mary Loke Sumner, on 20 January 1923.¹

     Frances Jean married secondly Jack Stanley Dean, son of William Boswell Dean and Martha Helen Smith, after 1945.¹ Frances Jean died after 1968.¹

     Margaret Jeffry was born on 10 September 1745 in Salem, Massachusetts.¹ She married Capt. Stephen Sewall Cleveland, son of Rev. Aaron Cleveland and Susanna Porter, on 28 October 1772 in Hampton Falls, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.¹ Margaret Jeffry died on 16 March 1809 in Salem, Massachusetts, at the age of 63 Cleveland appears to be in error giving a date of 16 March 1809.^1,2

     George Carrell Jenkins was born on 15 October 1836.¹ He married Mary Catherine Key, daughter of Philip Barton Key Jr. and Maria Laura Sewall, on 17 November 1868.

     Katherine Louise Jenkins married Rufus Roland Sewall, son of Rev. Rufus King Sewall and Anne Elizabeth Whitehurst.

     Marie Laura Sewall Jenkins was the daughter of George Carrell Jenkins and Mary Catherine Key.¹ Marie Laura Sewall Jenkins died on 28 November 1928.

     Mary Rachel Jenkins was born on 30 January 1845 in Richmond, Ontario.¹ She was the daughter of Edward Jenkins and E. Embury.¹ Mary Rachel Jenkins married George Grieve, son of William Bell Grieve and Elizabeth Fairbairn.² Mary Rachel Jenkins died on 16 November 1916 in Napanee, Lennox and Addington, Ontario, at the age of 71.¹

     Thomas Courtney Jenkins was born on 7 September 1869 in Baltimore, Maryland.¹ He was the son of George Carrell Jenkins and Mary Catherine Key. Thomas Courtney Jenkins married Elsie Woodbury Brown, daughter of Frank Gould Brown and Georgie Ray, on 26 June 1903.¹

     Lavinia Hervey Jenks was born on 25 October 1813 in Hudson, New York.¹ She married Marvin Harmon.¹

     Dr Daniel Jennison was born on 30 November 1782 in Walpole, Cheshire County, New Hampshire.¹ He was the son of Jonathan Jennison and Rhoda Ashley.¹ Dr Daniel Jennison married Martha Ashley on 7 May 1809 in Hartland, Windsor County, Vermont.¹ Dr Daniel Jennison died on 19 November 1820 in Hartland, Windsor County, Vermont, at the age of 37.¹

     John Jennison was born on 19 February 1711 in Watertown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.¹ He married Mary Hubbard, daughter of Major Jonathan Hubbard and Rebecca Brown, on 21 July 1740 in Lunenburg, Worcester County, Massachusetts.¹ John Jennison died in 1751 in Lunenburg, Worcester County, Massachusetts.¹

     Jonathan Jennison was born on 25 December 1751 in Lunenburg, Worcester County, Massachusetts.¹ He was the son of John Jennison and Mary Hubbard.¹ Jonathan Jennison married Rhoda Ashley.¹ Jonathan Jennison died on 11 September 1835 in Walpole, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, at the age of 83.¹

     Martha Jennison was born on 29 November 1814 in Hartland, Windsor County, Vermont.¹ She was the daughter of Dr Daniel Jennison and Martha Ashley.¹ Martha Jennison married Wright S. Dickinson on 26 September 1836 in Hartland, Windsor County, Vermont.¹ Martha Jennison died on 22 June 1849 in Hartford, Windsor County, Vermont, at the age of 34.¹

     Merilina Jermyn was born circa 1675.³ She was the daughter of Thomas Jermyn Baron Jermyn of St. Edmundsbury and Mary Merry.² Merilina Jermyn married Sir Thomas Spring bt on 23 May 1691. Merilina Jermyn died in August 1727.³

     Thomas Jermyn Baron Jermyn of St. Edmundsbury married Mary Merry. Thomas Jermyn Baron Jermyn of St. Edmundsbury died in 1703.

     Jennie Jerome (Lady Randolph CHURCHILL) was the daughter of Leonard Jerome. Jennie Jerome (Lady Randolph CHURCHILL) married Randolph Henry Spencer Churchill on 15 April 1874 in British Embassy, Paris.¹ Jennie Jerome (Lady Randolph CHURCHILL) married Major George Frederick Myddleton Cornwallis-West, son of Col. William Cornwallis West and Mary Adelaide Virginia Thomasina Eupatoria Fitzpatrick, on 28 July 1900 in St George's, Hanover Square, London.¹ Jennie Jerome (Lady Randolph CHURCHILL) and Major George Frederick Myddleton Cornwallis-West were divorced in 1913.²

     Alice Jervys was the daughter of Edward Jervys.¹ Alice Jervys died in 1624.¹ She was buried on 2 December 1624 in in the long aisle, on the North side, Westminster Abbey.² She married Alexander Baker, son of George Baker and Anne Swayne.¹

     Adah Adelia Jewett was born in 1849.¹ She was the daughter of Calvin Dimick Jewett and Louisa Ruth Kendall.¹ Adah Adelia Jewett married George Chellis Perkins.¹ Adah Adelia Jewett died in 1921.¹

     Calvin Dimick Jewett was born in 1825.¹ He was the son of Haynes Jewett and Hannah Wood.¹ Calvin Dimick Jewett married Louisa Ruth Kendall.¹ Calvin Dimick Jewett died in 1893.¹

     Carrie Ann Jewett died in 1861.¹ She was born in 1861.¹ She was the daughter of Calvin Dimick Jewett and Louisa Ruth Kendall.¹
