Samuel Fuller1

M, b. 25 April 1802, d. 8 March 1895
     Samuel Fuller was born on 25 April 1802 in Rensselaerville, New York.1 He was the son of Rev. Samuel Fuller and Ruth Pond.1 He graduated from Union college in 1822 and in 1823 was principal of Hudson academy. He then became private tutor in the family of a Mrs. Carter of Halifax, Va., where he became acquainted with Bishop Mead who influenced him to study theology. He was graduated from the General theological seminary, New York city, in 1827, was ordained deacon by Bishop Hobart, and preached his first sermon at St. Paul's, New York city. He was pastor of St. Paul's, Woodbury, Conn., 1827-28; rector of a church in Saco, Maine, for a part of 1828; was tutor in Trinity college, 1828-30; rector of Grace church, Providence, R.I., 1830-31; editor of the Episcopal Watchman, 1831-32; and rector of St. Michael's, Litchfield, Conn., 1832-37, and of Christ church, Andover, Mass., 1837-43. He then became Milner professor at Bexley Hall, the theological seminary of the Episcopal church of Ohio, of which Kenyon college was a branch. In 1844 he was president pro tempore of Kenyon college, afterward declining election to the presidency. The next five years were spent in second rectorships at Litchfield and Andover. He was lecturer on Christian life in the Divinity school of the P.E. church in Philadelphia, 1853-59; professor of Latin and interpretation of the Holy Scriptures, Berkeley divinity school. Middletown, Conn., 1859-83, and professor emeritus, 1883-95. He became rector of St. Paul's, Syracuse, N.Y., in February, 1870. Dr. Fuller wrote several books, his first being Loutron, and the others treatises on baptism, confirmation, creed, liturgy and regeneration, and a Commentary on the Revelation of St. John the Divine.1 Samuel Fuller married Charlotte Kingman Greenleaf, daughter of Hon. Simon Greenleaf and Hannah Kingman, on 15 July 1830.1 Samuel Fuller died on 8 March 1895 in Middletown, Connecticut, at the age of 92.1

     Hon. Thomas James Duncan Fuller was born on 17 March 1808.2 He was the son of Martin Fuller and Letitia Duncan.1 Hon. Thomas James Duncan Fuller married Elizabeth Dordin Titcomb, daughter of Lieut. Pierson Titcomb and Anne Maria de Les Dernier.1 Hon. Thomas James Duncan Fuller was living in Calais, Maine.2 He died on 13 February 1876 at the age of 67 "Hon. Thomas J.D. Fuller, a prominent member of the Washington bar, died at the residence of his son in Upperville, Va., on Sunday last, whither he had gone in perfect health, and while there contracted a severe cold, which turned to a fatal case of typhoid pneumonia. Mr Fuller was a man of great ability and genial disposition, and his death will be mourned by a large circle of friends and acquaintances." Washington Tribune, Feb. 15, 1876.3

     Tryphosa Fuller was born on 28 November 1806 in Winslow, Maine.1,2 She married Samuel Sewall, son of Rev. Samuel M. Sewall and Mary Lambard, on 14 May 1835.1 Tryphosa Fuller and Samuel Sewall appear on the census of 1850 at Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, together with their last five children.3 Tryphosa Fuller died on 2 May 1882 in Lowell at the age of 754 and is buried in Lowell Cemetery, Massachusetts.5
