     George Grieve. Schoolmaster.⁵ He was born before May 1778 calculated from hiis age at death.⁶ He was the son of John Grieve and Isabella Turnbull.^3,4 George Grieve was christened on 17 May 1779 at Roberton, Selkirkshire.⁷ He married Minto Bell, daughter of William Bell and Markie Minto, circa 1809.¹ George Grieve and Minto Bell emigrated in 1832 to Quebec, Canada, with their son William Bell.⁸ George Grieve died on 6 May 1841 in Montreal, Canada, the note concerning Montreal is amongst the Bell papers and continues: "in the house of his daughter Mrs. Chas. Murray - she had lost all her children & on July 31st had one son now her only child". The burial record calls him "of Ormstown."^9,6 He was buried on 8 May 1841 in Old Military Cemetery, Montreal.^6,5

     George Grieve was born on 26 July 1848 in Ontario.² He was the son of William Bell Grieve and Elizabeth Fairbairn.¹ George Grieve married Mary Rachel Jenkins, daughter of Edward Jenkins and E. Embury.²

     George F. Grieve was born on 24 November 1877 in Ontario.¹ He was the son of George Grieve and Mary Rachel Jenkins.¹

     Helen M. Grieve was christened on 21 June 1826 at Hawick, Roxburghshire.^1,2 She was the daughter of Walter J. Grieve and Christian Elliot.¹

     Isabella Grieve was born on 11 April 1812 in Scotland.² She was the daughter of George Grieve and Minto Bell.¹ Isabella Grieve married John William Schneider on 8 May 1835 or 18 May 1835 in Coteau du Lac, Quebec, (the record is unreadable).² Isabella Grieve appeared in the 1881 census at Vaudreuil, Quebec. Where she is living with her son John and his family and her son [Charles] Benjamin.³

     Isabella Grieve was born circa 1789.¹ She was the daughter of John Grieve and Isabella Turnbull.¹ Isabella Grieve died circa 1831.¹

     Jane Grieve was christened on 7 March 1785 at Roberton, Roxburghshire.² She was the daughter of John Grieve and Isabella Turnbull.¹ Jane Grieve died circa 1835.¹

     Jean Grieve was christened on 10 December 1814 at Hawick, Roxburghshire.¹ She was the daughter of Walter J. Grieve and Christian Elliot.¹

     Jessie Grieve was born in 1814.¹ She was the daughter of George Grieve and Minto Bell.¹

     John Grieve was born say 1816. He was the son of George Grieve and Minto Bell.¹ John Grieve died on 20 February 1820 in Invercashley (Invercassley), Sutherland, apparently of exposure. According to the account of his death written by his mother to her sister Isabella, John had wandered out of the dining-room at one o'clock on the Sabbath day and followed either some young horses, or some young friends. The day being extremely misty he got lost, he was missed at about three o'clock and a large search was mounted by the neighbours, between 40 and 100 taking part over the two days. It was not until Tuesday that John's body was found "as if he had laid down to sleep in a little hollow on top of a hill". There had been a hard frost at night.²

     John Grieve was baptised on 20 May 1820 at Creich, Sutherland.¹ He was the son of George Grieve and Minto Bell.² John Grieve married Nancy (Unknown).³ He is listed as a farmer in the Census taken in 1852 in 1852 in Richmond, Lennox and Addington County, Canada West.³

     John Grieve was born say 1754. He was the son of Walter Grieve and Jean Pott.² John Grieve married Isabella Turnbull, daughter of Walter Turnbull and Dorothea Chisholm, on 29 July 1778 in Roberton, Selkirkshire.³ John Grieve died in Craik, Roxburgh, Scotland.¹

     John Grieve was christened on 10 April 1787 at Roberton, Selkirkshire.² He was the son of John Grieve and Isabella Turnbull.¹ John Grieve died circa 1787.¹

     Kenneth G. Grieve was born on 28 March 1883 in Ontario.¹ He was the son of George Grieve and Mary Rachel Jenkins.¹

     Margaret Grieve was christened on 3 November 1813 at Hawick, Roxburghshire.¹ She was the daughter of Walter J. Grieve and Christian Elliot.¹

     Markie E. Grieve was born on 9 April 1874 in Ontario.¹ She was the daughter of George Grieve and Mary Rachel Jenkins.¹ Markie E. Grieve married George Edward Huff, son of Wesley Huff and Nancy Wales, in June 1900 in Belleville ?, Hastings County, Ontario,² where her name is transcribed as Minnie Grieve and she appears to have used this name subsequently.²

     Marky Minto Grieve was born in 1810.¹ She was the daughter of George Grieve and Minto Bell.¹ Marky Minto Grieve married Charles M. Murray on 7 September 1834 in St. Lawrence's Episcopal Church, Coteau du Lac, Quebec.^2,3 Marky Minto Grieve died on 13 September 1846 in Montreal.⁴ She was buried on 15 September 1846 in Saint-Gabriel's Street Presbyterian Church, Montreal.⁴

     Mary Christian Grieve was christened on 16 August 1816 at Hawick, Roxburghshire.¹ She was the daughter of Walter J. Grieve and Christian Elliot.¹

     Mary P. Grieve was born on 7 November 1887 in Ontario.¹ She was the daughter of George Grieve and Mary Rachel Jenkins.¹

     Minto Grieve was born on 6 August 1850 in Grieve's Corner, North Fredericksburg Township, Ontario, Canada. She was the daughter of William Bell Grieve and Elizabeth Fairbairn. Minto Grieve married William French, son of Thomas French and Agnes Dunwoody, on 31 December 1879 in North Fredericksburgh, Ontario.¹ Minto Grieve died on 28 January 1907 in Ontario, Canada, at the age of 56. She was buried in Camden 5th Con. Presbyterian Cemetery.

     Robert Grieve was born in 1849 in Canada West.¹ He was the son of William Bell Grieve and Elizabeth Fairbairn.¹

     Robert Grieve was christened on 5 June 1818 at Hawick, Roxburghshire.¹ He was the son of Walter J. Grieve and Christian Elliot.¹

     Walter Grieve was born in 1724.¹ He married Jean Pott, daughter of Adam Pott and Betty Elliot, on 17 August 1744 in Roberton, Roxburghshire, the marriage of Thomas Stavert and Betty Potts occurred at the same time.² Walter Grieve died in 1793.¹

     Walter J. Grieve was born on 6 June 1781.³ He was the son of John Grieve and Isabella Turnbull.² Walter J. Grieve married Christian Elliot on 20 December 1812 in Cavers, Roxburghshire.⁴ Walter J. Grieve and Christian Elliot appeared in the 1861 census at Southfield Farm House, Hawick, Roxburghshire.¹ Walter J. Grieve died on 3 August 1861 or 4 August 1861.

     William Grieve was christened on 20 October 1824 at Hawick, Roxburghshire.¹ He was the son of Walter J. Grieve and Christian Elliot.¹ A William Grieve emigrated in 1871 to Quebec he was possibly a widower as he is listed as single together with the following members of his family on the passenger list; William aged 17, Janet 15, David 7, Ann 6, Jane 3.² He married Margaret Jane Anderson, daughter of James Anderson and Jane Stewart, on 8 January 1878 in Owen Sound, Ontario.³

     William Bell Grieve was born on 29 March 1818 in Creich, Sutherland.¹ He was the son of George Grieve and Minto Bell.¹ William Bell Grieve married Elizabeth Fairbairn. William Bell Grieve and Elizabeth Fairbairn appear on the census of 1851 at Richmond, Lennox County, Canada West [Ontario], The family are farmers and are Presbyterians. Living with them are Robert Fairburn, 65, Robert Fairburn, 22 and Esther Fairbur, 22, all born in Scotland; Robert Fairburn, aged 11, born in the United States and Archibald Fairburn, aged 9, born in Ontario.² William Bell Grieve appears on the census of 1881 at Napanee Town, Lennox, Ontario, where he is described as a hotel keeper and a Presbyterian. He is listed on his own, which might just suggest that the hotel was not a resounding success.³ He died on 22 September 1885 in Napanee, Lennox, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 67.⁴ Note: Lillie Bell GRIEVE, died 24 March 1885 at age 3 yrs, 3 month, 23 days, of scarlet fever, at Napanee, Informant was William GRIEVE, hotel keeper.⁵

     William Bell Grieve was born on 6 May 1870 in Ontario.¹ He was the son of George Grieve and Mary Rachel Jenkins.¹ William Bell Grieve married Annie Maud Hawley, daughter of William Hawley and Margaret S. Snider, on 25 October 1905 in Napanee he is a book keeper of Richmond, Napanee and she is of Ernestown, Napanee.²

     Wilmina Grieve was christened on 3 May 1820 at Hawick, Roxburghshire.¹ She was the daughter of Walter J. Grieve and Christian Elliot.¹

     Edward T. Griffin was born in September 1856 in Maine.² He married Effie L. Sewall, daughter of James Fogg Sewall and Christiana Southworth, on 10 May 1884 in Penobscot County, Maine, they had one child who died before 1900.^1,2

     Surgeon George Griffin was born on 3 July 1787. He married Mary [Unknown].¹ Surgeon George Griffin died on 26 April 1864 in Quebec at the age of 76.^2,1 He was buried on 29 April 1864 in Mount Hermon Cemetery, Quebec.¹ Hospital Mate July 1811 to 24 August 1812, and again 5 November 1812 to 6 March 1814. Hospital Assistant to the Forces 7 March 1814; Assistant Surgeon 8th Royal Veteran's Battalion Regiment of Foot; 28 April 1814; half pay 2nd Royal Veteran's Battalion 24 May 1816; full pay 32nd Foot (The Cornwall Regiment) (exchange) 22 May 1817; Surgeon 34th Foot (The Cumberland Regiment) 26 September 1834; 85th Foot ((Bucks Volunteers) (The King's Light Infantry)) Regiment 29 December 1837. Retired half-pay 5 December 1843. Dr. Griffin was sometime surgeon of the military prison in Quebec.³
