     Philip of France, (Philip the Bold) Philip III, King of France was born on 3 April 1245 in Poissy. He was the son of Louis of France, Louis IX, King of France and Margaret Berenger of Provence. Philip of France, (Philip the Bold) Philip III, King of France married Isabella of Aragon Infanta of Aragon, daughter of King James I of Aragon James the Conqueror and Yolande of Hungary,, in 1262. Philip of France, (Philip the Bold) Philip III, King of France died on 5 October 1285 at the age of 40.

     Philip of France, (Philip the Fair) Philip IV, King of France was born in 1268 in Fontainebleau, Seine-et-Marne. He was the son of Philip of France, (Philip the Bold) Philip III, King of France and Isabella of Aragon Infanta of Aragon. Philip of France, (Philip the Fair) Philip IV, King of France married Jeanne of Navarre,, daughter of Henry III of Champagne, (le Gros) and Blanche of Artois, on 16 August 1284. Philip of France, (Philip the Fair) Philip IV, King of France died on 29 November 1314.

     Phillipe of France, King Phillipe I of France was born on 23 May 1052. He married Bertha of Holland, daughter of Floris I Count of Holland, in 1072. Phillipe of France, King Phillipe I of France died on 29 July 1108 at the age of 56.

     Benjamin Franklin was born on 17 January 1706 in in a house in Milk Street, opposite the Old South Church, Boston, Massachusetts.¹ He was the son of Josiah Franklin and Abiah Folger.¹ Benjamin Franklin died on 17 April 1790 in in his own house, Philadelphia, at the age of 84 of an abcess in the lungs.¹

SIR KENDAL FRANKS. C.B., M.D., F.R.C.S.I. The death of Sir Kendal Franks at Johannesburg, which has been announced in the public press, will cause much sorrow and regret amongst his many - and he had very many - friends both in the United Kingdom and in South Africa. Kendal Mathew St. John Franks was born on February 8th, 1851, at Jerpoint Hill, co. Kilkenny, and was the fourth son of Robert F. Franks and Henrietta, daughter of the Right Hon. Charles Kendal Bushe, Lord Chief Justice of Ireland. He was a distinguished graduate of the University of Dublin, in which he obtained first-class honours in mathematics and a scholarship. As a medical undergraduate he was also awarded a gold medal by the Dublin Pathological Society for an essay on " Injuries and diseases of articular cartilage." Ho graduated A.B. in 1872, M.B. 1873, and M.D. in 1876. He took out the licence of the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland, in 1875, and the Fellowship in 1879, and held the position of senior demonstrator of anatomy in the school attached to the College for some years. Shortly after graduation he was appointed Surgeon to the Throat and Ear Hospital, and subsequently to the Adelaide Hospital, of which he was for some years tho senior surgeon. He was also an examiner in surgery in the University of Dublin, and consulting medical officer to the London and North-Western Railway in Dublin. He was an able surgeon and brilliant operator as well as a popular teacher, and soon gained a large and profitable private practice. During the viceroyalty of the Marquis of Zetland he was appointed surgeon-in-ordinary to the Lord Lieutenant. He was a fellow of many medical and other learned societies, including the Royal Medico-Chirurgical Society, and was a member of the Surgical Council of the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland. He was the author of many valuable contributions to medical literature, including an article on "Movable kidney" in the Twentieth Century Practice of Medicine, vol. ix; on "Cholecystotomy" and on "Cases of enterectomy and enterorrhaphy" in the Transactions of tho Royal Academy of Medicine, Ireland (1889-1893).
He married in 1879 Charlotte Selina, daughter of Richard Greene, Esq; she died in 1881. In 1885 he married Gertrude Jane, daughter of Lieut. Colonel Bromhead Butt, 79th Regiment; She died in 1896, leaving three sons and one daughter. In 1906 he was elected vice-presidont of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, but in the same year, and before he had been long in office, he determined, in consequence of the serious ill health of his wife, to emigrate to South Africa. There he rapidly developed a large consulting practice and was appointed honorary consulting surgeon to the Johannesburg Hospital. During the South African war he was appointed consulting surgeon to H.M. Forces, and for his conspicuous services was thrice mentioned in dispatches and in 1900 received the C.B. He was knighted in 1904. Sir Kendal Franks was remarkable not only for his professional attainments but also for his broad mental culture and artistic taste; his skill as an artist in water-colour, which he inherited from his mother, was of no mean order. But he especially excelled in those social qualities which endeared him to so many devoted friends - a genial optimism and extraordinary enthusiasm even in trifling matters, and never-failing sympathy. He was indeed a man. W.J.S. in The British Medical Journal, 1920 p. 723.² Sir Matthew Kendal St. John Franks MD was born on 8 February 1851 in Jerpoint Hill, co. Kilkenny.² He was the son of Robert F. Franks and Henrietta Bushe.² Sir Matthew Kendal St. John Franks MD married firstly Charlotte Selina Greene on 3 September 1879 in Monkstown Church, co. Dublin.^2,3 Sir Matthew Kendal St. John Franks MD married secondly Gertrude Jane Butt, daughter of Colonel Thomas Bromhead Butt and Geraldine May Sewell, on 23 December 1885 in St. Phillip's, Earl's Court, London, (Duff p. 91 notes she died unmarried).^1,4 Sir Matthew Kendal St. John Franks MD died in May 1920 in Johannesburg at the age of 69.

     Robert F. Franks married Henrietta Bushe.¹

     Alexander Fraser was born on 24 August 1824 in Inverness.^1,2 He was the son of John Fraser and Lillias Fraser.¹ Alexander Fraser was baptised on 18 September 1824 at Inverness by the Rev. Robert Findlater; witnesses were Rev. Alexander Stewart (of Cromarty) and George Fraser (convenor).² He married Mary Mead Torrance, daughter of Benjamin Torrance and Mary Mead, say 1849.² Alexander Fraser died on 23 October 1882 in Canada at the age of 58.² He was buried in Cobourg Union Cemetery, Hamilton Twp., Northumberland County, Ontario.²
