Richard Dummer was born circa 1598 in Bishopstoke, Hampshire, owing to the loss of the early Bishopstoke parish-register, this cannot be verified. In the list of passengers by the "Bevis," his age is given as 40 in 1638. The only record I find of him in England is that in 1631, previous to his first going to New England, he settled a rent-charge of 40 shillings per annum, out of his lands in Bishopstoke, to the use of the poor of that parish forever. It was a generous thing to do as he was taking leave of his old neighbors, and speaks well for his character. That he paid a subsequent visit to England is proved by the fact that in 1650-1 he proved, in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, the will of Thomas Nelson, husband of his niece Joane.1,3,4 He was the son of Thomas Pyldrym (alias) Dummer and Joane (Unknown).1,2 Richard Dummer married firstly Jane Mason, daughter of Rev. Thomas Mason and Helena (Unknown), before 1632.3 Richard Dummer and Jane Mason emigrated on 26 May 1632 to New England on the Whale and settled in Roxbury.3 In 1633 at Roxbury he built a watermill.5 Richard Dummer married secondly Frances (Unknown) (widow Burr) circa 1643.6 Richard Dummer made a will on 23 April 1679 and proved 1 April 1680.5 He died on 14 December 1679 (1678 according to Sewell p. 1094).1,7

President of Havard. Dr. Leonard Hoar was born circa 1630 in Gloucestershire, England.1,2 He was the son of Charles Hoar and Joanna Hincksman.1 He emmigrated with his mother from London, to New England. He graduated from Harvard College in 1650, and upon the execution of Charles I. went to England, where he married a daughter of John Lisle, the regicide. He took a course in medicine at Cambridge University, and received from that institution the degree M.D. in 1671. He took orders in the established church and had a parish at Wanstead in Essex, until he was ejected for nonconformity in 1662. He returned to New England in 1672, bearing letters from several dissenting clergymen in England, recommending him to the vacant presidency at Harvard. He preached in the South Church, Boston, as an assistant to Thomas Thatcher. He was made president of Harvard College, Sept. 10, 1672, and introduced a system of technical education previously unknown in America. After an unsatisfactory administration, owing to the insubordination of the students, and the enmity of several of the influential patrons of the college, he resigned his office, March 15, 1674.3 Dr. Leonard Hoar married Bridget Lisle, daughter of Lord John Lisle and Alicia Beckenshaw. Dr. Leonard Hoar died on 28 November 1675 in Barnstable, Massachusetts.1,4 He was buried on 6 December 1675 in Braintree where the inscription on his tomb gives Boston as the place of his death.5

Major Thomas Savage was born circa 1607 in England.3 He was the son of William Savage.3 Major Thomas Savage emigrated from London on the Planter on 2 April 1635 to Boston but soon removed to Rhode Island with William Hutchinson whose daughter Faith he had married but very soon returned to Boston where he remained the rest of his life.

He was a creditor of the Iron Works Company and became a very large land owner in Braintree as a result of the foreclosures on the company property there, but besides his holdings so acquired he was owner of land in the present East Braintree listed in the Book of Possessions at Boston about 1644 which in all probability was an original land grant to him as were the adjoining lands mentioned in that book and listed there by their owners. "Ensigne Thomas Savage" gives, "also a farme at Braintree lying in two parts, the one containing thirty eight acres and a quarter bounded with rocky ground westwards, James Everill north, Richard Cooke south, and a salt bay east. The other contains twenty six acres and is bounded with rocky ground eastwards, William Wendall and George Hunne westwards, James Everill north, and Richard Cooke south. (This later tract was sold in 1645/6 to James Everill and listed with his possessions in the same book). Also one acre three quarters of marsh bounded with Oliver Mellowes east and north, Richard Cooke west, Monatiquot River south. He married firstly Faith Hutchinson, daughter of William Hutchinson and Ann Marbury, circa 1637; and had seven children.4,5 Major Thomas Savage married secondly Mary Symmes, daughter of Rev. Zechariah Symmes, on 15 September 1652 at Boston, Massachusetts; and had eleven children.5,6 Major Thomas Savage died on 14 February 1682 in Boston "very suddenly."7,6
